I wonder what glue would be best to attach. We want sturdy attachment to minimise ribbon cable movement, but retain the option of detaching the thing again if necessary for repair.
Superglue: problems with un-glueing?
Epoxy: ditto?
What do you think?
Glueing keypads to base?

I would suggest using Velcro, or the 3M interlocking stuff (IMO, the 3M stuff is much better than Velcro, but harder to find).

Great idea! Not just for safety, but also for comfort. I've always been bugged about the fact that the panels slide ever so slightly around on the base, so I've attracted a nitpicking habit of realigning the base all the time
For this purpose, cost should not be an issue. Velcro is certainly cheaper than the 3M stuff, but it should be well worth it.
If someone has a link to an online store selling it, they may want to post it here.

Most any hardware store will stock velcro ribbon/tape. Long's Drugs even carries it. Might find it at larger or more extensive supermarkets. Ditto most of the big box office supply stores, Office Max, Office Depot, Staples, etc.

$32.59 for a 25 yard roll of 1" tape, ought take care of your lifetime needs. Don't worry about buying too much, you will always find stuff to use it for.
Here's a source for the 3M stuff.
