Need information, your help appreciated

Postby TorbenGB » 07 Feb 2011, 09:45

We do have a read-only copy of the FingerWorks Forum, but we don't have a copy of the FingerWorks website itself. It would be helpful to have that, as it would include product descriptions and images -- and all downloadable files, too! Too bad I didn't do a full wget back in the day, but perhaps someone else did. Any partial help is just as valuable!

--> Do you have an archived copy of www.fingerworks.com (or any bits and pieces) that we may use? Please send me a message!

Hi Torben,
It's not a wget dump but I've uploaded an .mht archive to this Wiki page, still better than nothing.

Ivan, this is absolutely excellent! Except for the downloadable files (PDF, EXE, etc.) it has everything -- all the text, all the images -- wonderful.

(Just curious: why did you upload the archive to that particular wiki page? Was it not possible to put it elsewhere?)

Still to-do:
  1. convert the MHT files into regular webpages,
  2. host the regular webpages just like we host the read-only forum,
  3. find the missing downloadables... :!:
Items 1 and 2 are easy, I "just" need to find a day to do that.
Item 3 is tricky and we still need to get in touch with other users who have these files.
Or perhaps... do the installation cd's contain all these files, for all OS types? :?:

It doesn't look like they are original filenames, but the original filenames can probably be extrapolated from the MHT files' links.

I also have these HTM files and a directory with embedded files for each of them (presumably the pages in the MHT files would be better and easier to use for this, assuming it has them):
2005-05-19 11:09 32,446 FingerWorks Firmware Version Change Log.htm
2005-05-19 11:10 24,242 Gesture Editor Revision History.htm
2005-05-19 11:15 26,419 XWinder -- The Future of Window Management.htm
2005-05-19 11:14 28,173 XWinder for Mac OS X and Windows XP.htm

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like I have the SDK files, but I bet they are already on the wiki (or maybe they were included in the packages I listed above and I forgot). Anyway, my directory with these files totals nearly 700MiB, so what I need to know is where I can put them for someone to deal with (ftp upload or mail a CD, don't think it would be ideal to try to mess with wiki from any of my connections).

 Wow!!

You can either upload the files into the forum, or ZIP them and upload them to a filesharing service so I can grab them from there and upload them for you.

To upload to the forum, I recommend this:
The forum FingerWorks official software is the target for executables.
The forum Manuals, PDFs, images is the target for documentation.
The forum Inbox is a catch-all place if you don't feel like categorizing.

To only send the files to me and let me handle it, use any service like these: EatLime, Opera, others.

 Yea, I could have opened my eyes and realize that the new forum version is ready for attachments! I also have some useful pdf's but as Dustin seams to have those and more, I've uploaded some of my non-FW documentation here: Official PDF downloads

BUT YOU SHOULD CHECK THIS VAULT (amazing time travel) : waybackmachine.org
(their wget could have been better tuned but they captured a pretty nice snapshot!)

This topic was a "global announcement" and I've just turned it back into a normal topic because I think we have "lots of"/"all the" material we need. Additions are still welcome, of course!
