Re: Buying remaining devices from University of Delaware?

Thank you Eben, but Minox beat you to it :-) I did not decide this; he was simply first. Like you, he offered to accept the lot and salvage as much as possible, as well as taking care of the remains for the future. He's also got the skills and equipment to do repairs, so I am sure that it will be go...

Re: Buying remaining devices from University of Delaware?

I've added an update to my initial post -- see above!
Full email and photos included.

I hope we can find a solution for the community to benefit from this offer, but I don't know how much time we still have.

Buying remaining devices from University of Delaware?

I've received a message from the University of Delaware with an offer to buy the FingerWorks devices that were left over in Elias' and Westerman's old lab spaces. It's a very interesting offer and I will post details later -- but I wanted to get the word out to get your attention. UPDATE: Here is th...

Re: What is the future of Fingerfans?

All right, to wrap up this thread let me officially state that I will not move this site, nor close it -- it will remain in this format that we know. Not changing anything is safe and comfortable for everybody; changing would mean lots of work for no great benefit (given the small number of users we...

Re: What is the future of Fingerfans?

Would any new user have access to ... The problem is that when we grant new (actual) users any means of communications, then spammy user registrations will have the same means. If new users can PM other users then they'll get barraged. Not good. Ultimately I would even prefer to have a global messa...

Re: What is the future of Fingerfans?

There's no need to archive this site -- it doesn't cost me anything to keep it online (and I'm not going to switch hosting provider anytime soon!) so I can just keep the site up indefinitely. Because of the spam it might be necessary to disable new registrations though. That wouldn't hurt the "archi...

What is the future of Fingerfans?

I've just read about how Google+ communities could become the new Yahoo Groups. Would that be an interesting platform for our community? I'm asking for two reasons: #1) First, it seems that the need for this site is disappearing. There are so few active users left, and the world has moved on. I'm no...

Our forum is under spam attack again

New registrations are temporarily disabled! Sorry, but this is necessary. I hope to enable it again soon, but can't give a date. As I write this, there are more than 400 forum posts waiting for moderator approval. I have checked them at random and it looks like they are ALL spam. At the same time, ...

Re: wonky left pad on Touchstream LP

Hi Henry! You have already ruled out a messed-up configuration, and dirt. Good! I haven't experienced what you describe, but I think it could be static electricity - though I can't really explain why it would only affect one half of the device. Try doing a flat-palm gesture once on both halves befor...

Re: Questions about prepping for sale

Being able to sell it as a complete original kit is a big advantage. The original driver cd is outdated but it also contains useful reference material. Most eBay listings are either along the lines of "if you're looking for this then you already know what it is" or "I'm a business and I have no idea...

What's going on, why is everybody suddenly selling their FingerWorks TouchStream? Re: Mountain Lion?

I think you won't be able to get the FingerWorks software to run normally from within the new Mac OS version because the software relies on a version of Java that is no longer supported by the newer OS'es. But there's a solution! (I think.) Look at this thread to see how to set up a virtual computer...

Re: Replacing USB cable?

Uh-oh, it sounds like the fall damaged the USB connection. I'm not sure from your explanation whether the center ribbon cable needed replacement, but obviously it didn't solve the problem. As you've surely also realized, the fact that the right half gets hot indicates a short circuit. I am afraid th...

Re: Silver TouchStream LP Dvorak an eBay

Hi again - I see you've relisted the TS . These things get rarer and rarer, and apparently their time has passed because the recent prices we're seeing are a lot less than what they used to trade for in their heyday. Sad, very sad. I'm using my Danish TS at home rarely, and the US Qwerty at work, no...

Bailing? As in "going back to Qwerty", or as in "leaving zero-force typing behind"?
Dvorak is a weird hurdle to get over. I've tried a few times, but it's just not in my hands.

Re: Fully working FingerWorks software in a virtual machine

I'm not familiar with 'Windows Virtual PC' but it's great to hear that you got the software to run -- that is the most difficult part, usually. As for connecting the hardware, the virtual pc software should have some settings where you can choose or configure which of the host's USB devices will be ...
