Content at fingerworks.com has been restored

Looks like Wayne noticed that the site was down/gone/expired and fixed it at some point in the recent past.

Very interesting!

I would not have expected the layout to be seperate from the touch-sensitive surface. That could be very useful. Though, I would assume that in order to use it in a PowerBook/MacBook Pro, the layout surface would need to be glued down somehow.

Typing on a MacNTouch

Torben, in your review, I think you may want to comment on your experiences with typing on the MacNTouch and how it is similar or different than typing on a TouchStream LP/ST. I only suggest this because I know that I when I got my first MacNTouch, I found typing to be just different enough that it ...

Nomaded, I don't think the edges are sawed off at all -- it's just that the enclosure overlaps the touchpad surface a little more than the FW enclosures would. So it's a full board, but from the outside you just don't see the outermost 5 millimeters or so. Ah ha! Looking at the image that Eric post...

Re: I would like to get an encosure.

Do you by chance have any sets of the cables for the MacNTouch for the 15" Powerbook? Although I've made my own from scratch it would be nice to have a set or 2 of the originals. I would also like to get an external enclosure. I would also be interested in getting the internal cables with the ...

Third, these enclosures were specifically designed to house the DigiTouch writer not an external USB (MacNTouch) keyboard. They are not a perfect fit but they are close. I really expected that the demand would be for replacements of PowerBook Touch Stream keyboards as opposed to being external. The...

Re: just maybe...

If it is built like my silver MacNTouch, then you could just change the cable. Would have to remove the tabs too... Apparently the cable is a copper foil ribbon on Kapton tape. It has 4 traces with the same pitch as the USB standard and terminate on one end in a 20 pin 1mm pitch for the ZIF socket ...

Congrats on getting the keyboard. As Ivan said, great little story. I should put up some pics of my silver MacNTouch and my Oct2005 15" AlBook - apparently it's a "custom" board. If I remember correctly, it was bought by someone that was installing it into a 14" iBook, so instead...

nylon is good at developing static charges

I would be careful with using nylon with a TouchStream or iGesture device. Nylon seems to be able to develop a static charge on its surface pretty easily.

Not only is FingerWorks' multi-touch technology being used in the iPhone, look at the SMS or Mail demo on the site. They show an evolution of the English spelling correction - what the tech would be like if it was tightly coupled with the OS. I have to say that I'm really glad and really happy to se...

Huh. And here I was going to post a comment about them showing up on Amazon again. Well, I ordered one also. I figure, what the worst that could happen? Have $290 of credit tied up for a few months? The seller is listed as "amazon.com", so I wouldn't be surprised if Amazon found a bunch in...

As you can see from my sig, I do own a few of these keyboards. 3 of the 4 are in active day to day use, except my white MacNTouch, but that's because I don't use my TiBook anymore (any one want to buy a 800MHz TiBook or a white MacNTouch that works very well with it?). About the only type of wear I ...

I have one of the silver colored ones designed for the AlBooks, and so it sounds like I could put it in a MacBook! Please note that I said the silver MacNTouches should still fit in a MacBook Pro (with disassembly similar to what is needed for an AlBook), not a MacBook. With the MacBook, you need n...

This is a known problem with the Java update for 10.3.9. Apple has a fix/workaround for this issue.

Note: there are 2 different kinds of MacNTouches: the white ones and the silver ones. The white ones were designed to be easily installed in the TiBooks. Installation involved popped out the keyboard and detaching the cable, then snapping the MacNTouch into place. The silver ones were designed for t...

From looking at the instructions to remove the upper part of the case, I would say that the chances of a Silver MacNTouch fitting is pretty good. The builtin keyboard looks like it would be removed in a similar manner as in the Oct2005 PowerBook ( http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/64.4.0.html ).

I just wanted to update this topic with some new info. I was able to get a Silver MacNTouch into my Oct2005 PowerBook. Did you also try doing the 5x palm slap? That should simulate the physical unplug/replug.

As long as it's not those frakking random linked text ads that have starting showing up in various sites, I don't mind Google text ads. I would be all for putting them at the bottom of each thread/page, instead of on the side.

Looks like my changes to the wiki I put in back in december is gone.

Oh well.

Edit:

... or not... weird. I guess the Recent Changes section at the bottom of the main page got nuked. Well that's good. I'm happy the little i added to the wiki didn't go *poof*

This is a known issue with the RF interference that GSM/TDMA mobile phones put out. A similar problem occurs with the cold cathode tubes that have been common for "ricing up" PCs.

As other disassembly pics have shown, FingerWorks had a tendancy to reuse the Lexan surface. My guess is that the FingerWorks probably had a bunch of pads produced, with different images shown on each side and assembled as demand required.
