Re: PowerMac G4 FingerWorks Machine
I answered this question. I was able to launch the Utility software under 10.1 somehow, but the gesture editor didn't work (so, really it didn't do much). Under 10.2.0 it actually refused to launch, complaining that Java was 1.3 and it needed 1.4. I updated OS X to 10.2.1, 10.2.2, 10.2.3, 10.2.5 try...

Re: PowerMac G4 FingerWorks Machine
Huh I thought the FingerWorks software also ran under OS9 which is why I was looking for a Mac from the tail end of the Classic era. The device works under OS9 and 10.0. The configuration software can't "see" the device under 10.1 or 10.1.1. With the OS bumped to 10.1.5 the device can be "seen" and ...

PowerMac G4 FingerWorks Machine
I'm just dropping back by to say that after giving up on the idea that I could ever emulate a software stack allowing me to configure my iGesturePad, I have purchased a 2002 PowerMac G4 specifically for the purpose of running the software! When I get it running I'll let you all know. The first thing...

Specifically what hardward and software will suffice
I've given up on any form of virtualization or emulation sufficing to configure FW devices in the modern world, so I'm going the old school route and purchasing a vintage Macintosh. Before I put my nickel down I want to make sure I buy the right thing. To run the FingerWorks software natively I need...

Are Fingerworks products essential public domain now?
From my understanding of trademark law, the Fingerworks brand and logo are unprotected now because they aren't used in the marketplace. Also from my understanding of patent law, any patents required to make any Fingerworks products must have expired by now because they are older than the patent term...

Re: FingerWorks Utilities on Linux Virtual Image
We put the Utilities on an old version of Mandrake using the 2.4 kernel but the result was unchanged. That used the version of Java that shipped with the Utilities.

Re: FingerWorks Utilities on Linux Virtual Image
Yeah I guess I'm having that problem. * Ubuntu 10 image boots fine * I can set up the VM Filter for the iGesturePad and the VM sees it when booted * The MultiTouch_Utilities software starts fine * BUT the software says No FingerWorks Devices Found I understand the thing about "the Utilities use an o...

FingerWorks Utilities on Linux Virtual Image
Hello community, I've hired a professional to help me make a virtual image which will run the FingerWorks software. He has an Ubuntu 10 image right now which boots the software, which is half the battle. I'm going to check it out to see if it will really configure my iGesturePad, then I'll work with...

Re: Hello from Portland, OR
Thanks for the blog link! That looks very promising, and easier than creating an image, but it begins on a computer that already has the FingerWorks Utilities installed in /Applications/FingerWorks. I found the Mac_setupfw160.zip file in the Downloads section, but that unpacks into a Classic Mac OS ...

Re: Hello from Portland, OR
It so happens that I am a Java programmer by trade. I don't work with USB or keyboards or anything like that, but if we can identify the structure of the software then I can try to just straight up call a Main class. We can decompile the code and try to modify it if needed, too. I haven't really spe...

Re: A collection of three TouchStreams for sale
The TouchStreams originally retailed for $350 right? I sold mine in 2009 for $500. It may be that the value has continued to increase, and you could get $600 per, or it may be that the platform is too bitrotten to be useful these days, what with the software not even running on modern operating syst...

Re: Hello from Portland, OR
I've been through the forums and I saw the discussion about how to bootstrap the Java Application, and the other discussion about using a virtual machine. Thank you. Those are both daunting possibilities, I'd be equally likely to try to track down simply an old computer and try to use it. I figured ...

Re: and another Kickstarter project with promise
(I'm having fun reading ancient threads on this forum.) Update on this Haptix product: they delivered hardware which people deemed quality, but the software never worked. Even now, four years later, the Kickstarter page has comments from people looking for software that could make the hardware work ...

Re: Hello from Portland, OR
It's so nice to have a couple voices out there responding. This forum doesn't have a section for projects so I'll just use my own member intro thread to put up my ideas and ask questions. I'm a computer professional and recently, as a mixture of hobby and professional development, I've been actively...

Re: A collection of three TouchStreams for sale
Did you have any takers here? eBay might still be your best bet. I've had a "FingerWorks" watch there for many years.

Hello from Portland, OR
I owned a TouchStream back when they were actively produced and have never forgotten how much better its gestures were than anything that we've seen since then. This week I bought an iGesturePad on eBay. I'm crossing my fingers that it fully works and if so I'll put it next to my ErgoDox keyboard an...
