Re: The forum is dead - long live the forum!
THANK YOU, TORBEN!!! I left my previous job earlier this year, and one thing I forgot to do was to grab the patched preferences app that runs under modern versions of Java. Googling for the solution led me to one of the missing threads. I had to dig out my original paper documentation to find even ...

Re: I've tried to PM, am I doing something wrong?
Hello everyplace! What you should do is send a personal message ("PM") to me, but I haven't received one from you yet. Read "Rule 2.1)" posted at the top of this page -- that should make everything clear. Send me a PM by clicking the link in Rule 2.1) or by clicking on the "PM" button under this re...

Re: Fingerworks and laptop (iPhone?) screens
I’ll admit that I am curious to know if my “through the LCD” demo had anything to do with the eventual design of the iPhone multi-touch screen. And no, I’m not trying to say I deserve any money for the idea, even if I was actually the first to come up with it. Someone at Fingerworks may have alread...

Well, now we know what Apple's doing with FingerWorks tech.
The good news: now we can get a multitouch input device.
The better news: it combines multitouch with a touch screen.
The bad news: it's a 3.5-inch screen.
The worse news: it comes bundled with an iPod and cell phone.
Sigh...

Ugh, same thing here -- just received the tracking number, and the status page says the shipped weight is 0.20Lb. Sigh. Oh, well -- every once in a while, a deal like this DOES work out. Like the lottery ads used to say, "you gotta play to win"... and at least, unlike the lottery, I'm not losing my ...

What would be interesting would be if two people were holding each other, if they could use one finger from one hand each and it would act as two fingers on one hand. Have to try that out, could lead to interesting experiments in collaboration. Especially since the two (or more) people would necess...

Re: Touchstream locks up usb port
I find my touchstream periodically locks up the usb ports so that everything stops working. If I unplug the touchstream, usb is freed up and works normally. I then replug the touchstream and it works fine also until it decides to lock up the usb again. Anyone know what causes this and if there's a ...

I get the feeling that ten or twenty years from now, when gestural recognition is finally widespread and reasonably usable, people will look back on the TouchStream much the same way people look back on Doug Engelbart's 1968 NLS demo . "How was that even possible with the technology of the time? Why...

Good... LORD! I knew I was spoiled with my TiBook, but I didn't know keyboard removal was THAT bad for the new machines! But now I've got a MacBook, with exactly zero chance of replacing the keyboard, even if I came into posession of a MacNTouch. :-/ Maybe somebody will come up with a hack to get be...

Just about had a heart attack...
I came in Monday, and discovered that I couldn't log on to a couple of the systems here. Went to our sysadmin, tried it from her machine, and it worked fine. NOW what? Could I be mistyping my password -- again and again and again ? Finally got fed up and typed my password into a text editor, and dis...

He's not dead yet! I seem to recall that the lead time on patent processing can be several years, so I'm not sure how significant this really is. I wonder if it'll be possible to track assignment of this patent -- since FingerWorks doesn't exactly exist any more ("Address unknown"?), will it be assi...

Wow, thenn, this is a find. congrats and hoorahs all around. On the spare chip end of things, I have received a response from one of the companies, the one that had 6 chips. They are priced at $6 each. Probably a rip off, if that was the real price the TS boards would have cost twice as much. They'...

Re: Fruitful TouchStream Repair Tactics
Wow, looks like I missed some good stuff in the past couple of months... * Xilinx FPGA Chips: According to the mystery manufacturer who used to do repairs, one of the two Xilinx FPGA chips located on the RIGHT half processor board is the next most likely cause of LEFT half sensor block (i.e. 320 or ...

Another brief update: even though it is the left half of one of my TouchStreams that is malfunctioning, the defect seems to be in the right half.
