Another possible idea would be to have wrist control. If the two halves were more seperated, and each attached directly to a wrist, could be as simple as a U shaped padded grip the wrist sits on. You can start a two handed gesture and then only move the left hand. I haven't found a great use for it, but if I set down 2 figers from both hands and then move the left it will move the mouse. With the right gesture settings, mostly just setting up the two handed gesture in the same way as the rig...
I have owned my touchstream for about 6 months. I am also a Mechanical Engineer, but work more with Solidworks.
