Re: Fully working FingerWorks software in a virtual machine
Fantastic work, David! Thank you for documenting it so clearly - now we can all build a workstation for the devices!

Just deleted some spam registrations
Hi all, this is just to make a note that I am doing a bit of housekeeping and clearing out the cobwebs. I have jst deleted 232 registrations of spammers. Their posting attempts fail, as do most of their registration attempts, so it's just a handful that get that far at all. Let me know if you notice...

Re: PowerMac G4 FingerWorks Machine
Very glad to hear of your success!!! Now you can go crazy and customize your device like it was meant to. Yay! Interesting that those two bin files failed. Where did you take them from? Do you have an original CD or was it a download? If you can point me to the Java 1.4 for Mac then I will include i...

Re: PowerMac G4 FingerWorks Machine
As for item 2), it looks like this post has some hints : The real problem is that the Multitouch Utilities was written with a specific version of Java in mind. At this point, that version of Java is no longer supported by Windows 7 (and OS X 10.6 and later). Specifically, the problem is the Java USB...

Re: PowerMac G4 FingerWorks Machine
Hi! I vaguely recall that the core issue is that the FingerWorks configuration software requires a particular Java version, and that Java version is not supported on modern systems. So the trick is, as you are doing, to use a sufficiently old operating system that supports that old Java version. Tha...

Re: Graphics should be colorblind-friendly
Thanks for the quick response. Icons seem to be arranged differently these days so I need to see how better icons should be uploaded. I'll work on that and ask your opinion when it's ready.

Re: Graphics should be colorblind-friendly
Hi Dustin! You've been so good as to notify me when an update replaced the icons with non-color-friendly ones. I've just made an update to a much newer version -- can you tell me whether the icons are okay now or need to be replaced?

Howdy! It's been a while and I am just curious -- how are you doing with your nice keyboard?

Successful update from 3.0.14 to 3.3.0 👍
This is just a small happy celebration :-) I had a problem with my board and I noticed that it has not been upgraded for a looong time. I was hesitant for fear of breaking even more (there have been problems in the past) but I couldn't resolve the issue by tinkering. I caved and (after taking proper...

Re: Howdy from Houston!
Hello Bill! Welcome to this tiny community. It's been a good while since the last post. You have a cool story - are you going to start using your TS again now? It's unfortunate that you need a Windows XP installation (potentially in a virtual machine) to run the configuration software, but as long a...

Re: FingerWorks Utilities on Linux Virtual Image
I think it's not about using an old Linux distro, it's about getting your hands on a sufficiently old Java engine? That in turn might have dependencies, i.e. you can't run a very old Java on a new'ish OS. So you'd have to start with an OS from the same time and install that old Java version on it (i...

Re: FingerWorks Utilities on Linux Virtual Image
Hello! If you can make it work on Linux, that would be a great leap! My most recent efforts are years old but what we found back then was that it's easy enough to get the FingerWorks software to work, but impossible to upload the configuration to the keyboard because the FingerWorks software uses ol...

Re: Hello from Portland, OR
If you find that the entire Touch surface works for mousing or for moving the cursor, then the number pad issue is not a hardware problem. You might discover that some of the "key" hotspots on the surface have been disabled by the previous owner. Search the documentation for how to do a firmware res...

mind blowingly good for gestures and mind blowingly bad for typing Hello there! Yep, you hit the nail on the head with that. I'm very sorry to say that the era of FingerWorks is coming to a close. As you've noted, this forum is almost all quiet, only a few posts per year these days. It's so very sa...

Re: How many of us are left? Does a forum still make sense?
Hi Peter! It seems that the FingerWorks users are slowly going extinct. There were never many of us in the first place. I must admit that I sold off my own devices a while ago, and I have barely visited this site since then, except for admin tasks. If you look at the memberlist , you'll see that 8 u...

Update: A happy buyer in Los Angeles bought it for $300 plus shipping. I'm sure it will go to a good home.
And with that, I no longer have any FingerWorks devices left :'-(

DigiTouch for sale (MacNTouch with enclosure)
Hi all, I have sold off all my FingerWorks devices except this one, but I haven't used it in ages so I have decided to part with it. Make me an offer! ( Ebay link ) One piece of trivia: This is not just " a DigiTouch". This is " the first DigiTouch": it's the first one they released, and the one I r...

Re: Replacing USB cable?
Aloha! Long time no chat.
The black plastic frames have several internal clips along every side, so opening them up means a lot of fiddly work with a thin blade. Be careful not to break (all) those tiny clips; use small drops of super glue to keep the frame closed again afterward if needed.

Re: Middle mouse drag unpredictable
I don't know Maya but it's very odd that you say it works fine with a mouse, because the application does not know that you are NOT using a mouse. For all practical purposes, that's just a normal USB mouse you have there. Some thoughts come to mind: Are you not seeing this behavior in other applicat...

For what it's worth, I (used to) maintain a spreadsheet with all Ebay listings. This is very useful for figuring out the current market rate for the various FW devices. It's an open document, anyone can edit it: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1r0639mEJqtSL7plrMxaR72BvBNW9mGnUyjTZV-YLF1A/edit...

Another quick update:
The antispam plugin is frequently updated, and I am keeping up with installing each new version as it arrives. I can see that the plugin results become better with each new version. I am hopeful that this is a stable path for our forum.

Re: Building a FW device into a desk?!
Did you decide already if you are going to make something with your Digitouch? Thanks for those photos, it looks like a nice fit! I didn't decide to make it. I've put it in the marketplace, haven't gotten around to Ebay yet. As useful as the DigiTouch is, my biggest challenge is that I don't use th...
