Magic keyboard rises from the dead
Well, I dusted off the apple magic trackpads again over the UK bank holiday weekend last week and here I am again typing on them. This time I'm able to: * type (of course) * rest my hands without letters being typed * mouse and single-click with the right trackpad -- lovely! (or was until I broke it...

Re: New Kickstarter project that looks promising
I'd be surprised if the software were anything close to as good as the fingerworks, but we'll see. When's it due out? The technology (FTIR) is probably a good choice I think, since it gives it a mass market appeal through the interesting transparent look. Nice-looking design, if I'm any judge of pop...

Re: wow - just fell over this :)
The whole software patent thing, combined with the fact that the overheated tablet/smartphone market is probably the best place to get sued over patents at the moment, is certainly what stopped me from posting the source for what I did last year (see photos in "magic keyboard" thread -- I'm afraid I...

Colemak: Dvorak is so last century
Anybody tried this layout? It's an incremental improvement over Dvorak, but a worthwhile one I think. http://colemak.com/ I've been just getting started with it -- I've only just got past the home row, but I like it so far. Some of the more significant differences are removal of one or two Dvorak ke...

New Apple touch keyboard patents
http://www.patentlyapple.com/patently-apple/2011/04/apple-hits-a-multi-touch-patent-grand-slam.html Partly about their obsession with thin-ness (yawn), but also some on shielding and calibration. It's promising that this focuses mostly on detail rather than experimental ideas: if they can make somet...

Re: The magic keyboard
This message was touch typed on two Apple magic trackpads and some hacked-up software based on PyMT. I can't use modifier key taps yet like shift or return (and of course I keep doing those by mistake), it's rather small, and there's no mouse or other gestures yet, but it is just about useable. Next...

Re: Apple gesture patent
Increasingly ridiculous? Given the quality of software patents for some years, it would be hard to get more ridiculous. I see Apple is being sued for their use of the double-click: http://www.itproportal.com/2011/01/03/tech-giants-sued-over-double-clicking-patent/ I'd laugh, but it's so much par fo...

Apple gesture patent
Recognise these gestures, anybody? http://nexus404.com/Blog/2010/04/29/new-apple-multitouch-gesture-patent-granted-additional-multitouch-gestures-set-to-expanded-shortcuts-for-touchscreens-such-as-save-as-refresh-restore-print/ Note in particular the two finger point/click gesture -- what the news s...

General damage minimisation
Hmm...
1. Glue keypads to base
2. Minimise transportation
3. Use a case to transport keyboard
4. Protect USB cable? How?? Perhaps reinforce joint between cable and RHS keypad? How?
5. Don't drop it
Unruly children and animals to be shot on sight
Anybody got more to add?

Glueing keypads to base?
I wonder what glue would be best to attach. We want sturdy attachment to minimise ribbon cable movement, but retain the option of detaching the thing again if necessary for repair.
Superglue: problems with un-glueing?
Epoxy: ditto?
What do you think?

Anybody making sturdy boxes for transporting touchstreams?

Resurrection! ;-)
Just about to attempt replacement of the ribbon cable, I thought I'd give it one more shot. What do you know, my touchstream LP sprang back into life when I plugged it in!
I wonder how much longer it has to live, though...

Anybody selling repair services?
It's clear there are lots of people here to whom it would be well worth the money to pay for repair to their touchstreams.
So, is anybody offering such a service? If not, why not??

Replacing ribbon cable - tips, photos?
Top-left of my touchstream LP is non-responsive. I suspect mechanical damage to the ribbon cable (though I haven't tested the electrical connections yet). I have replacement cable, thanks to posts on the old board. It looks difficult to replace, though. What tool do you use to unplug the old one? Do...
