To promote the Apple rumor, Apple just introduced a multi-button mouse using "touch-sensitive technology" for the buttons. Have a look at Apple's web site. I did not check the patent application but the cited article does not mention FW-like technology. Apple should have a lot of technology applicaple for a tablet computer back from the Newton days.

I think even with opt-in it would be fairly easy to get access. I do not think that a process requiring email/image verification would drive away potential users.

Spam is a fact of live these days & we should deal with it.
