no email verification?

I have to say, I'm a bit surprised there wasn't an email verification step for registering to this forum. It's a bit refreshing, but in other ways a bit worrisome. Yes, needing to enter a real email address is a pain, and needing to go thru an extra step to create an account is a pain, but I think i...

nomaded, Andover, MA, USA

Hey Torben. Thanks for setting up the wiki and forum is such short notice. I hope I can attempt to provide some useful input here. Let's see, what to say. Well, if you look at my signature, you can see I've been using a FingerWorks product for over 3 years now. I still have all the products I bought...

Summary as of April 26, 2005, Updated September 2, 2005

Updated September 2, 2005 - see below I want to try to summarize what we know so far. Feel free to add/correct me. -> Around the middle of February 2005, it was noticed that FingerWorks Support was not returning email messages/support requests in a timely manner. Inquiries were made to the Official...

Re: no email verification?

I think we should let things be for a while, at least for starters, and see how it develops. What do you think? Well, I agree that making sign-up easy would help promote users from the Official Forum to migrate over here. But, I think a simple email verification is fairly painless. And considering ...

Change To: header for email generated by forum software

Just a suggestion: I've already gotten a few emails generated by the forum software. They all have a To: header of <torben@...>. It might be a good idea to change it to something that specifies that it's coming from the forum, like <forum@fingerfans...>, and <wiki@fingerfans...> for emails generated...

I agree. That sounds like potentially good news.

I might go as far as reading that the new owners see (or have been made to see) that keeping existing users happy would be a GoodThing(tm).

Nonetheless, we should keep this wiki/forum site around anyways.

Yeah, fingerworks (Administrative user) to a stash of MacNTouches that were being used for some project, but now they want to unload them. I hope that is still in the works. I would definitely be interested in picking up another one.

Re: Pain Question

I think all the mousing is the cause of my pain. I would suggest that you try a trackball. I started using a trackball, for most of my computing, before I found and switched to a TouchStream-based solution. I personally like the bigger trackballs that you use your fingers to move, rather than the s...

Disable guest accounts?

Yeah, I know, even if you disable guest accounts, it won't stop anyone from creating a dummy account and posting that way. But, at least if they're required to create an account, they might continue to post with the same account and that way we don't have a whole bunch of posts from various "Guests"...

I even tried going to (by typing in the url by hand) from a machine that I've never used before to visit the forum, and it seemed load up for me.

Re: FW Forum problems

Has anyone else noticed that the "view new post" link on the FW forum hasn't beet working? That link has been working for me since they "fixed" the forums a co...

Yes, it should just be a matter of changing your "keys" in the MyGesture Editor to match the layout you want. -- edited to add the following: And as for changing the "covers", well, if you're switching to Dvorak, you really shouldn't be looking at the surface of the keyboard anyways - at least that'...

new to dvorak, better ?/ placement

For all those Dvorak user's out there, do you have the "?/" in default placement? I ask because I'm trying to learn dvorak (after being a fairly proficient qwerty typist for _many_ years), and since I'm a Unix sysadmin, I find myself reaching for the '/' key fairly often. I never needed that reach f...

Well to answer my own question, I have come up with the following (minor) changes: - The right-of-RH-pinky column is changed so that it is more like the QWERTY layout: "-_" is next to '0', "\|" is next to 'L', and "/?" is next to 'S'. - Following the bradheintz suggested LH punctpad changes, I chang...

MacNTouch internal USB extension cable

Anyone know where I would be able to find an internal USB extension cable, much like the ones that come with the Silver MacNTouches?

Anyone know what this type of cable is called? I'm not having much luck at Digikey.com trying to find something that even remotely fits the description.

Layouts are fully stored in the firmware of the keyboard. The software you can download from FingerWork's site (at least for now) will give you full access to changing/tweaking the layout and some of the behavior of the gestures. The software (MultiTouch Utilities) is Java based, so it should run on...

Re: Usage of the TouchStream

My biggest problems lie with Capitalization of letters on the left pad, typing 'h' when I want an 'n', 'i' instead of 'o' and getting an 'n' instead of a space or in the case of AutoCAD, a return/enter. I am hoping I can increase the size of the SHIFT on the right pad, decrease the size of the 'N' ...

I'm trying to remember, didn't you have a MacNTouch for your iBook? :)

It sounds like these MacNTouches aren't yours, as if you've found a *supply* of them somewhere.

I would also suggest turning on some kind of audio feed back. I found it very helpful getting used to the slightly different key layout when I first got my MacNTouch (from using my old TouchStream Stealth). You can run some 3rd party software for Windows, and OSX has it builtin (under Universal Acce...
